COMMON GROUND

~ Yellow Hawk 2006 ~

At the water's edge, or on the mountain side,
I watch them gather and then they ride.
They have found their safe haven, a peaceful surround,
This place of the sacred and pure Common Ground

As the eagle soars in and out of our sight,
Our spirits will follow in harmonious flight.
God's beautiful sky watches over us all

Cowboy and Native will both hear His call
With hearts that have longed for a place to call home.
And souls that desire a pure path to roam.
Spirits unfailing and hope with out cease
Hands stretching forward to welcome this peace.
Native and Cowboy, side by side,One heart,
one spirit, together they ride.
A rope will be thrown, a feather will fall,

The sounds of the night will beckon and call.
In Fort Sooner's camp, the fire burns bright,
A cowboy song drifts through the still of the night
Across the pine grove, Native Spirit's white flame
Is dancing and singing and calling your name.

Cowboy and Native, many nations of each,
Coming together to learn and to teach.
As we come full circle, we know we have found
A small piece of heaven on our own Common Ground.
